Budgeting

The dreaded B word haunts us again as each payday approaches us; it is quite hard for us to budget especially because every month after you’ve paid your bills, it is hard to save the $10 that is left to bring us back to work.  I most recently purchased something quite expensive and I’ve been getting a lot of questions about how I was able to purchase this at such a tender age of twenty (20) years old as well as going on vacations and so much more. The truth is I do a lot of planning, budgeting, and sacrificing; my methods are extreme and to give you a hit of how extreme I get, I’ll bring with me exactly $230 every day and that only includes fare to and from my house, yes, I do bring lunch and breakfast and water so I do not need to spend any other money apart from my fare. ...

Feelings, feelings, feelings

There are times when you encounter situations and your emotions over power your sense of judgement and actions.  We may be faced with a team member who acts like our boss, our boss is overbearing and loves to micromanage us, and the list can continue.  But, do we stop to think about the message not the messenger? I am of a strong belief that nothing happens without a reason, within every situation (good or bad) you can pick a lesson to learn and grow from.  Would you agree? I recently had the displeasure of dealing with an unpleasant situation, one in which I would not normally react how I did. After that encounter and speaking with my mom, I realized that if I was playing my part, maybe I wouldn’t have had that experience. I decided to shape up and do better ne...

Should we teach our sons to be emotionally compatible?

Do we need to teach our sons how to be more emotionally compatible?  Such a homophobic country such as Jamaica has left a lasting impact on the minds of our young men.  Young men nowadays are afraid of showing any sort of affection towards others out of fear of being considered weak or feminine.  Men and women have distinctive ways of communication, despite the many views that men cannot be from planet Earth.  Especially when it comes on to children - sons to be precise – it is rare to find a man sitting down having a discussion with his son. “There are hardly any good men left” a statement made all too well by most single women all because men are scared to be romantic.  Can we as women and mothers teach our sons that it is OK for them to show love?  What ...

Read this before you quit

“Do something today that your future self will thank you for” I have been wondering what I’m doing with my life and what my next step will be ever since 2018 started. The crazy thing is that even though I know what I want and how to get there, sometimes I feel like I’m not seeing the results I want. There are times when I want to give up on pursuing my dreams but then I think about my job right now and living the rest of my life as an employee; it really depresses me. There is no way I can stop now. I ask myself, “Why am I so lazy? Why do I procrastinate so much? Do I know how much I could achieve if I stop quitting and just do? How will I feel next year this time?” Then, there are times of the month when I feel extremely tired; it’s ridiculous. It’s like I exhaust myself du...

Understanding yourself

“If you follow the classical pattern, you are understanding the routine, the tradition, the shadow – you are not understanding yourself.”  – Bruce Lee Many persons are at a conclusion that they know and understand themselves, but would you agree?  Every day is a learning experience, every day you learn something about yourself even when you aren’t aware.  There is no test you can take that will let you fully understand yourself within the day.  What you can do however, is take every situation thrown at you and choose one thing that you can imitate or discard of as it relates to your personality.  What do I mean?  Well let’s examine some scenarios. Relationships Intimate Look at your significant other and state five things you love about ...

Step out of your comfort zone

“Life begins at the end of your comfort zone” It’s sad when someone gives up on their dreams and more often than not, many of us throw in the towel for good way too early. Many times we end up in situations and we begin to bicker and get miserable forgetting one important point, we are the only ones that are holding ourselves back. There are many people right now that are intimidated by you because they know your potential, they see what you can become. Instead of discovering and capitalizing on our talent, we keep it in reserve until we lose it. After conducting my research I found that one in every five respondents stated that situations change and their dream of becoming the next big thing gets placed on the top of the bookshelf. “My child comes first.” “I'm getting ...

No revenge is the best revenge

There have been many cases where we as women let hurt and jealousy take control of us all because someone we truly cared about failed to fulfill their duties. Just imagine loving someone, doing the best for them at all times; then realizing that their time and attention is focused on someone who doesn't even notice them? Hurtful, right? It is a shame but most of us has gone through this at one point in our lives. I'm not going to tell you to get over it because it happens to the best of us, because trust me, it is not that easy. What I will suggest to you is that you consider this post The best revenge is no revenge. Move on. Be happy. Ask yourself if whatever this person did will matter in five years? I know for a fact that your answer will be no; do not spend more than 5 ...

Successful Mindset: 5 ways to develop it

If at first you don't succeed (first you don't succeed),Dust yourself off, and try againYou can dust it off and try again, try againCause if at first you don't succeed (first you don't succeed),Dust yourself off, and try againYou can dust it off and try again, dust yourself off and try again, try again Do the words above sound similar? That is the chorus for Aaliyah's Try Again. I was listening to the song yesterday and it lead me into this article. Specifically developing and maintaining a successful mindset.
