Alien Invasion?

Alien Invasion?

Relax; it’s not an alien invasion.  What’s your first thought when you look at the image?  Many see an alien hiding in a human’s body; others see an alien removing skin.  I see neither. I see what many of us are going through every day. We are living a life that is totally different from the one we envisage ourselves in.  We show one side of ourselves to the world, the persona we created and perfected just so we can fit in with everyone else, not knowing it is okay to be different, be an alien.  We eventually become a person that we don’t even recognize when we look in the mirror. We get mentally, physically, and emotionally distorted, confused, and uncomfortable. It’s sad because it is true; many people not only in Jamaica, but across the world are forced to hide in plain sight or chan...

Relationship Cycle

Have you ever realized the cycle of a relationship? Wait, did you even realize that relationships are a cycle? It's funny isn’t it? You meet someone, you’re scared of opening yourself him to him/her; you finally tear down your walls and allow that person in. Your trust and confidence grow and even though you doubt yourself, you decide to go against your instinct and show full-blown love to your partner. You’ve been through the late night calls, the early morning messages; you’ve lost hours of sleep just to talk to the significant other. The willingness to drop any and everything you are doing to be by their side. The time spent telling jokes, laughing, eating, and meeting friends and family. It may not be obvious the first few times but things begin to change, we received si...

Maintaining Viewership

In the previous article, Attracting Audience to your blog, we discussed ways in which we can attract viewers to our blog without spending a dime. We discussed quality over quantity, using hashtags, being social on social media, not overthinking, promoting yourself, and being what you hope to attract.  In this article, we will discuss how to maintain viewers. Admit it, promoting your blog is one long, stressful task, but let’s be real it is the easiest part. Maintaining audience engagement must be the hardest part in my opinion, it entails you keeping the audience on their toes, or keep their mouths watering which requires you to stay busy.  The google dictionary defines the word maintain as cause or enable (a condition or state of affairs) to continue which in essence means to keep someth...

A lesson in growth

Last week, I was on the low-low mentally because I had no sense of direction; I was confused because someone who I loved very much returned into my life but I didn’t want to give up my progress for him. Not to spill out much of my personal life, but that one incident really opened my eyes to a whole new life, some may call it reality.  In the midst of all of this, I noticed one thing in particular that a lot of persons don’t seem to give much attention. Growing up, I’ve always heard people saying that you go to school, get a job, get married, have kids, retire, and then die.  Now that I am currently in the working part of my life, I refuse to be a part of this rat race. There is just no way my life is ‘destined’ to be so dull and boring and with no sense of purpose. What...

Break Up Process

All good things must come to an end ~ Geoffrey Chaucer People believe that a break up is simple; you cry for a week then move on.  Is that the case for everyone?  Do you run to another guy/girl after exiting a relationship?  Do you take another drink or eat yourself to death? When the relationship comes to an end, what should I do? Many will agree that the breakup process is just like the grieving process, it involves: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance.  Time heals all wounds, I must agree, but my length of time will not be yours, as such, you and I shouldn't rush another person when they are going through this phase. There is so much on your mind when you go through a break-up.  After doing my research I came to the conclusion that the length o...

Hustling

The urban dictionary defines ‘hustling’ as making money no matter what the situation is; Jamaicans are the creators and mastermind behind the term, ‘hustling’.  I strongly believe that we are able to make it wherever we go just because of this trait.  Today, I want to share five tips for making money on the side to supplement your current income or just to have extra cash on the daily.  Consultant – A person who provides expert advice professionally; other synonyms include: adviser, guide, counselor, expert, and specialist.  I consider myself a consultant because I have knowledge and experience in certain fields for more than three (3) years.  It is one of the quickest ways to earn money without building up unnecessary debt and overhead expenses. ...

Hot Head, Calm Down

Criticism may come in the harshest form, some we even cry about at nights.  Other times it comes from persons who we may not be fond of.  But, is it possible for us to focus on the message and not the messenger? Is it possible for us to find value in what was said and use it as a booster that will make us one step closer to success?  Is it viable to accept criticism?  Is it feasible for us to maintain self-control whilst being criticized? It is true that being the better and bigger person is easier said than done; it also takes more strength to not react rather than to.  You feel better when you don’t give into these pressures.  There are times when people push you to your limit and you feel an overwhelming cloud come over you.  I’ve seen situatio...
