The internet is crazy

The world is weird. The internet is crazy. Earlier this month, I joined Twitter as I thought it would be all fun and jokes. Whew chile, was I wrong. This morning I had to delete the app from my phones as the negativity and level of toxicity are beyond what I can manage.  Not to say that this app isn’t insightful but people are so full of opinions and everybody thinks they are right; there are people with opinions fighting others with opinions. Nobody has the right to do anything they want, as far as I can see, if you do, people hate. If you don’t people hate. Either case it’s not a win for any party.  Twitter was founded in 2006 by Jack Dorsey, Noah Glass, Biz Stone, and Evan Williams. It was created with the hopes that people could share posts and interact with others ...
What to do if Covid-19 took your job

What to do if Covid-19 took your job

I’ve not been on this earth long enough to compare the severity of world events but based on the views of others; this truly is the worst the world’s economy has been in. Covid-19 has ruined lives by stealing joy, money, and lives; many personal and business lives have been severely impacted not just in Jamaica but across the globe. On the other hand, Covid 19 has showed us what should be important in our lives; realizing that the things that truly matter we have been taking for granted just for the sake of earning a buck to spend it on bills. The question that many are asking now is “What should I do now that Covid-19 took my job?” Thankfully, I have a few suggestions below: Enjoy the moments with your family - Many despise the Kardashian family for reasons that are unknown to me. Y...

A lesson in growth

Last week, I was on the low-low mentally because I had no sense of direction; I was confused because someone who I loved very much returned into my life but I didn’t want to give up my progress for him. Not to spill out much of my personal life, but that one incident really opened my eyes to a whole new life, some may call it reality.  In the midst of all of this, I noticed one thing in particular that a lot of persons don’t seem to give much attention. Growing up, I’ve always heard people saying that you go to school, get a job, get married, have kids, retire, and then die.  Now that I am currently in the working part of my life, I refuse to be a part of this rat race. There is just no way my life is ‘destined’ to be so dull and boring and with no sense of purpose. What...

Break Up Process

All good things must come to an end ~ Geoffrey Chaucer People believe that a break up is simple; you cry for a week then move on.  Is that the case for everyone?  Do you run to another guy/girl after exiting a relationship?  Do you take another drink or eat yourself to death? When the relationship comes to an end, what should I do? Many will agree that the breakup process is just like the grieving process, it involves: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance.  Time heals all wounds, I must agree, but my length of time will not be yours, as such, you and I shouldn't rush another person when they are going through this phase. There is so much on your mind when you go through a break-up.  After doing my research I came to the conclusion that the length o...

Hustling

The urban dictionary defines ‘hustling’ as making money no matter what the situation is; Jamaicans are the creators and mastermind behind the term, ‘hustling’.  I strongly believe that we are able to make it wherever we go just because of this trait.  Today, I want to share five tips for making money on the side to supplement your current income or just to have extra cash on the daily.  Consultant – A person who provides expert advice professionally; other synonyms include: adviser, guide, counselor, expert, and specialist.  I consider myself a consultant because I have knowledge and experience in certain fields for more than three (3) years.  It is one of the quickest ways to earn money without building up unnecessary debt and overhead expenses. ...

Hot Head, Calm Down

Criticism may come in the harshest form, some we even cry about at nights.  Other times it comes from persons who we may not be fond of.  But, is it possible for us to focus on the message and not the messenger? Is it possible for us to find value in what was said and use it as a booster that will make us one step closer to success?  Is it viable to accept criticism?  Is it feasible for us to maintain self-control whilst being criticized? It is true that being the better and bigger person is easier said than done; it also takes more strength to not react rather than to.  You feel better when you don’t give into these pressures.  There are times when people push you to your limit and you feel an overwhelming cloud come over you.  I’ve seen situatio...

Budgeting

The dreaded B word haunts us again as each payday approaches us; it is quite hard for us to budget especially because every month after you’ve paid your bills, it is hard to save the $10 that is left to bring us back to work.  I most recently purchased something quite expensive and I’ve been getting a lot of questions about how I was able to purchase this at such a tender age of twenty (20) years old as well as going on vacations and so much more. The truth is I do a lot of planning, budgeting, and sacrificing; my methods are extreme and to give you a hit of how extreme I get, I’ll bring with me exactly $230 every day and that only includes fare to and from my house, yes, I do bring lunch and breakfast and water so I do not need to spend any other money apart from my fare. ...

Feelings, feelings, feelings

There are times when you encounter situations and your emotions over power your sense of judgement and actions.  We may be faced with a team member who acts like our boss, our boss is overbearing and loves to micromanage us, and the list can continue.  But, do we stop to think about the message not the messenger? I am of a strong belief that nothing happens without a reason, within every situation (good or bad) you can pick a lesson to learn and grow from.  Would you agree? I recently had the displeasure of dealing with an unpleasant situation, one in which I would not normally react how I did. After that encounter and speaking with my mom, I realized that if I was playing my part, maybe I wouldn’t have had that experience. I decided to shape up and do better ne...
Should we teach our sons to be emotionally compatible?

Should we teach our sons to be emotionally compatible?

Do we need to teach our sons how to be more emotionally compatible?  Such a homophobic country such as Jamaica has left a lasting impact on the minds of our young men.  Young men nowadays are afraid of showing any sort of affection towards others out of fear of being considered weak or feminine.  Men and women have distinctive ways of communication, despite the many views that men cannot be from planet Earth.  Especially when it comes on to children - sons to be precise – it is rare to find a man sitting down having a discussion with his son. “There are hardly any good men left” a statement made all too well by most single women all because men are scared to be romantic.  Can we as women and mothers teach our sons that it is OK for them to show love?  What ...
