Founded in 2013, Cambly is designed to connect English speaking tutors from the US, Canada, UK, and Australia to students who desire to learn English. All tutors have the unique advantage to work from home, set their schedules, speak without fear and get the most out of each class. Though they give you the flexibility to set your hours and work as long as you want, there is no guarantee that your class will be booked.

Cambly pays 0.17 USD per minute which equates to $10.20 per hour and payments are made every Monday via PayPal. Although they are an online teaching company, they do offer other jobs outside of teaching which may be found here.

Fun Fact: After working 10 hours of private classes, Cambly gives each tutor their certificate.

SayABC

Headquartered in Beijing, this company ensures that each student is taught by a well-educated and certified tutor. They focus on students between ages 5-12 since their brains are open to learning and understanding life-changing events such as learning a new language. They teach using: language presentation and practice, songs and games, video activities, global values, and national geographic values and mission pages.

This is a special institution because they do require you to have a Bachelor’s Degree, however, they encourage interested ones to apply whether or not they possess that qualification. It is required that English is your native language and you must have at least one year’s experience; a TEFL certificate is preferred.

QKids

Founded in 2015, Qkids allows North American teachers to teach English to more than 500,000 Chinese students between the ages of 4-12. They are located in Siming District, Xiamen, China, and the application process can be completed with 2 weeks. All applicants must be eligible to work in the US or Canada with a minimum commitment time of 6 hours each week. 

QKids pay between USD 16-20 per hour with each lesson being 30 minutes. Derick from Bloomington, IN said ” I work at Qkids English as a teacher while I’m also a full-time student. The office staff is simply wonderful, always willing to adapt to my ever-changing schedule with no questions asked. However, the best part is being able to see these kids’ bright shining faces every morning and helping them to learn a new language, something I am very passionate about! Bibo is the number one English school in Japan. They offer each employee the chance to meet new faces across the world all in the comfort of their home while getting paid. Teachers create their schedule with no restrictions or limitations and their investment in these teachers can be shown in their staff count of over 6000+ teachers from over 70 countries. All applicants must be over 18 years of age, proficient in English, own a laptop or desktop with high-speed internet and a headset or headphones and a webcam. Certification in the proficiency of the English Language is a plus but not a must. Bibo doesn’t require you to create lesson plans because you have access to their wide variety of teaching materials.

Lingoda

Lingoda is different from all the schools mentioned previously because they focus on teaching adults the English Language. Students may also learn German, French, and Spanish in small groups or private tutoring sessions online and face to face. They are the leading language school in Europe.

They require that each applicant possess 2 years of teaching experience, hold an ESL certificate (CELTA or equivalent), native speaker of the language you are interested in teaching, are reliable and organized and are engaging and communicative with students. You must also have a laptop or desktop with a webcam, high-speed internet, headset or headphones and must be willing to work as a freelancer.

The application process is also much different because you are given two options:

  1. Create a one minute video including your qualifications and experience and send to teacher@lingoda.com
  2. Fill out this form and wait for them to respond
