Successful Mindset: 5 ways to develop it

If at first you don’t succeed (first you don’t succeed),
Dust yourself off, and try again
You can dust it off and try again, try again
Cause if at first you don’t succeed (first you don’t succeed),
Dust yourself off, and try again
You can dust it off and try again, dust yourself off and try again, try again

Do the words above sound similar? That is the chorus for Aaliyah’s Try Again. I was listening to the song yesterday and it lead me into this article. Specifically developing and maintaining a successful mindset.

As entrepreneurs, we know that we did not reach this level overnight. We went through the jungle and back just to be where we are now. But the drive that brought us through the numerous faces of defeat, where did it come from? Better yet, how can we help others to develop it?

Would you agree that it is hard to have investors invest in someone who lack confidence in themselves and ultimately their business? I mean, think about it why would you give your hard earned money to someone who isn’t sure if their product is even that good?

Let us consider a few ways in which we can develop a successful mindset:

  • Challenge Yourself – We don’t normally grow when we are comfortable. Would you agree? Sometimes, we need to challenge ourselves in order to gain confidence and develop an optimistic point of view. Your challenges do not have to be drastic but you need to engage in something you wouldn’t normally consider.
  • Learn from each failure – From now on, I implore you to think of failure as an opportunity to learn and grow. Life does not give any of us wins only; when things do not go our way, can we look for where we went wrong and try another way? That type of mentality will lessen your anxiety and heightened the need for you to take risks.
  • Set goals – If you are serious about developing a successful mindset, you can start by setting S.M.A.R.T goals. Do not wait on New Year’s to make a resolution as you and I both know that we don’t normally stick to those plans. Those S.M.A.R.T goals should be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timely. Targeting goals from this angle will help build and guide you in your journey to developing a successful mindset.
  • Avoid Quiescence – Synonyms for quiescense include: dormancy, stagnant, inactivity or inaction. Whichever word you feel comfortable with using in this scenario, avoid it. There is no way you can be successful while being complacent. If you feel like you are at a point in your life where you aren’t learning anything new whether at work or in your personal life, it may be a huge indicator that you are stagnant. Change it up.
  • Trust yourself – Easier said than done, right? Trusting yourself is one of the most generous things you can do for you. Not only does it help to build your confidence, but it aids in building trust between you and others. All you need is self-love, self respect and the ability to appreciate your talents.

Developing a successful mindset will take time, there is no way around that. The five steps mentioned above can aid you during your progress.
